Convenience stores are very popular and widely used all over Japan.
But the prices of the goods are not at the discount levels.
So one company called DAISO made 100 YEN shops (百円ショップ) which prices were basically 100 Yen (100 yen + 5 yen (5% tax) = 105 yen total).
These days another groups of 100 yen shops are popular because they are selling not only any kind of goods, but also foods, drinks, etc almost all kind of household, family, or business products.
Also they are selling products with more than 100 YEN prices, and of course, all discounted prices. (but mostly less than 500 YEN or so.)
Some of them are 24 hours open with same discounted prices.
