Yamato Museum

Battleship Yamato was one of the most famous battleships of Imperial Japanese Navy in world war Ⅱ and the  biggest battleship in history.

The ship was built in my hometown: Kure (Kure Naval Dockyard) and my late father was a member of a escort destroyer in her official trial.

Kure Maritime Museum (also known as Yamato Museum) in Kure shows 1/10 scale model of Yamato.

Building this model: 1/10 Yamato (26 meters in length) was not such an easy project.

• One and half years of development. (real Yamato : more than 4 years.)
• Real Metal and materials, one by one laid of wooden deck by old ship builder.
• Hundreds of drawings were newly prepared and may engineering change orders (ECOs) were done.
• Based on video images of sunken Yamato, remaining drawings and pictures, technical documents by naval engineers and Yamato researchers, and information by Yamato survivors.

The shape is very beautiful, so lots of modelers including me made small plastic models of Yamato.

The museum shows not only the history and technology of battleship Yamato, but also horror of war, history of Kure and naval shipbuilding… etc.

When I return to Kure,  I visit this museum regularly.
