Convenience stores are very popular and widely used all over Japan.
But the prices of the goods are not at the discount levels.
So one company called DAISO made 100 YEN shops (百円ショップ) which prices were basically 100 Yen (100 yen + 5 yen (5% tax) = 105 yen total). Continue reading →

There is a very old shrine called Kashima Jingū (鹿嶋神宮).

The mon is covered with very beautiful vermilion color and this is the symbol of the shrine.
You can go through it and enter into the inner court of the shrine.
The name: Jingū has a special meaning which shows upper level of jinjas in shinto world.

Within the circle of Yamanote line in Tokyo, there are very many slopes.
Slope in Japanese is Saka (坂) or Sakamichi (坂道).
Followings are pictures around Akasaka area.

Left is unknown (noname) slope. But it looks like to have some interesting history in Edo era.
Right one is the slope near Hie shrine located near Akasaka Mituske station. I’m not sure the name of the slope. Continue reading →

As I had lost of personal issues, I couldn’t update this site for a long period of time.
I apologize for this fact.
The categories here are in some way too much greedy or too difficult to handle with my poor knowledge.
So for a while, my update would be basically for Today’s Kanji and Real Japan.
Also, this site is designed with WordPress – free CMS software so I would like to modify the design to seek better and useful one.

I got to know the author of “The Bushido over the Sea” – Japanese Title : 海の武士道 (umi no bushido).
His book written in Japanese was already published in Japan (of course in Japanese) last December, and he continues trying to get the channel to publish the English version of his book in the US.
However, there are too many difficulties:
- Find the agent or publisher and ask them with query letter, manuscript, presentation, and some other documents
- Translation issue – Japanese to perfect English needs more time and/or money
- Japanese contents – prejudice, ignorance, or no interest
- Any other promotion way – maybe You Tube or some websites?? Continue reading →
Golden Week (GW) is very famous holiday season – continuous holiday from end of April to early May.
There is another Japanese English – Silver Week (SW).
It was started in 2009 and separated two portions – September and November.
September: actually 5 days in 2009
・9/19 (Sat)
・9/20 (Sun)
・9/21 (Mon) = The Respect-for-Senior-Citizens Day (National Holiday)
・9/22(Tue) = National Holiday
・9/23(Wed) = Autumnal Equinox Day (National Holiday)
Every year the date would be slightly changed depend on the dates of national holidays.
Please be careful about the date.
Checking the calender like this will help the schedule of your business trip to Japan.
In the US, it is very common to assert something as a way of better communication.
Some complaints or requests at the shop, restaurant, office, … very common and normal.
Also, as far as I know, training of presentation skill is important and a kind of basic in US schools.
But in Japan, heat-to-heart-communication (by telepathy?) is the base.
Saying “No” is not good for many Japanese people.
“you know what it is” styles of communication is very popular between Japanese people for a very long period of time.
These days, Japanese people are understanding that this style of communication has a lot of problems/misunderstandings in diplomacy, international trade, and international business.
It is not so easy to change the way.
